Pharrell talks about battle over “Blurred Lines”

Pharrell

Pharrell is engaged in a battle with Marvin Gaye’s estate over Robin Thicke’s megahit “Blurred Lines,” he wants to make one thing clear — he has incredible respect for the late soul legend.

“I’m a huge fan of Marvin Gaye. He is a genius. He is the patriarch,” Pharrell said on Thursday night…..
Pharrell told The Associated Press on Thursday night that the two songs are not similar at all.
“If you read music, all you have to do is read the sheet music. It’s completely different,” he said while on the red carpet during an event for the Calvin Klein Collection during Fashion Week.
Gaye “is the king of all kings, so let’s be clear about that. And we take our hats off to him,” he said. “But anybody that plays music and reads music, just simply go to the piano and play the two. One’s minor and one’s major. And not even in the same key.”

Will.I.Am Sues Pharrell

Will.i.am is very protective over his business ventures — as any music mogul should be. However, the ‘Scream & Shout’ artist is taking fellow producer Pharrell Williams to court over his ‘I am OTHER’ brand.

According to the Black Eyed Peas frontman, he has copyrighted the phrase ‘I AM.’ Pharrell’s’ I am OTHER’ logo looks strikingly similar to Will.i.am’s ‘I AM’ images. And “the registration of the mark . . . is likely to dilute the I AM mark and the WILL.I.AM mark,” official court documents said, as reported by Rolling Stone.

Meanwhile, the Neptunes producer is denying all allegations. “I am disappointed that Will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me,” Pharrell told Rolling Stone in a statement. “I am someone who likes to talk things out and, in fact, I attempted to do just that on many occasions. I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that Will’s trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I do.”
